CHASING FREEDOM

Part love story, part adventure tale, Chasing Freedom follows two young artists who risk everything to escape Communist Hungary in 1983.
Zsuzsa (Susan) Széchenyi was born into a small family of wealthy aristocrats who once moved effortlessly along the Danube between Vienna and Budapest at the height of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Attila Kovács comes from a large, impoverished Romani family who, for generations, wandered across Eastern Europe in nomadic groups, searching in vain for a place to call home.
From radically different worlds, Zsuzsa and Attila met at art school in Budapest and fall in love against all odds. Their shared passion for art and creativity binds them together-and awakens in them a longing for freedom of expression, a dangerous dream under a totalitarian regime.
Sometimes torn apart by circumstance, sometimes clinging to one another, they journey from Budapest to Berlin, Paris to New York City, Wyoming to San Francisco-perpetually searching for a place where they can live and create freely. In time, they discover that the freedom they seek is not only found across borders, but within themselves.
